About Aachen

AACHEN AND THE EUREGIO MAAS-RHINE

In Aachen, Europe is more than a mere word. In Aachen, Europe is alive! Here, in the immediate vicinity to The Netherlands and Belgium, people are used to meet each other across the “borders” and to work in cooperation with each other. This attitude has shaped the city and has made its people more open to others.

AACHEN AND TRAFFIC

Aachen has excellent traffic connections in all directions. You are able to get to Frankfurt/Main by ICE train in record time and there is a very fast Thalys train to Paris. Motorways lead you directly to Belgium, The Netherlands, Düsseldorf and Cologne. The airport connections are international: Maastricht-Aachen, Liège, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf and Brussels.

AACHEN - PAST AND PRESENT

A city history of nearly 2000 years does not impair on Aachen’s lively present. On the one hand you can enjoy beautiful examples of modern architecture and on the other hand the city can boast an attractive, friendly and cosy old town. Aachen’s centre is the former Palace Chapel of Charlemagne. The cathedral and the town hall date back to 800 AD and are still today to be found right in the centre of the city. Here, visitors can enjoy the precious treasures and artefacts that bear witness to the long history of the medieval Aachen as the coronation city of the German kings.
